V. Šimon from the ASU Stellar Department provides in his article a detailed report on the long-term variability of the brightness of the five intermediate polars. This sample shows that the intermediate polars have a very wide range of optical luminosity. From the long term perspective, their light curves show many transient phenomena – flares, brightening, transitions between high and low brightness states. But whats common for these changes is the matter transferred between the donor and recipient star, which forms a contact binary system.
